Stardew valley cats are one of the many pets in the game, you can get one of these amazing creatures after you get 1000G (or just wait until spring 20) although adopting it is free, it is also optional

Every day you can pet your cat and water it's pet bowl to get 12 and 6 friendship points respectively (no you cannot use a sprinkler for the pet bowl) and the max amount of friendship is 1000 points!!! (or 5 hearts) Although it is a slow process, when you do get maximum friendship, a message will appear saying "[car name] loves you" so I guess it's worth it

Oh yeah if you really like min maxing everything, the cat will also be a bit useful, after max friendship, there's a 20% chance your cat gives you a gift after petting! The rarest ones are the duck feather and the rabbits foot (don't tell bun wielder what this implies) at 1.7%
